Company History
Wigston Courier Services Limited, based in Leicester, is an independent family-run business, established in 1986 by Carl Smith, and operated by his wife Dot from home until 1988, when the company became full time and opened its first depot of 200 square feet at Frog Island.
In 1992 a move to bigger premises (2000 square feet) at Bow Bridge in Leicester’s city centre coincided with Carl and Dot’s son Wayne joining the company as a driver at the age of 17. Wayne is now a director of the company and manages the transport office.
The business expanded again in 1994 with a move to 9000 square feet in Braunstone.
With increasing customer demands the business is ever expanding. What originated as a courier business quickly turned into a haulage and storage company. We currently operate a fleet of 40 vehicles, consisting of various sizes ranging from small vans carrying 400kgs up to artic lorries with a payload of up to 29 tonne (44 tonne gross).
A second depot of 40,000 square feet was opened in 2004 in Wigston, which also houses a garage and mechanics for in-house servicing and maintenance of our vehicles.
Our most recent move was in 2007 from Braunstone to Narborough, which gave us 20,000 square feet of pallet storage in addition to the 40,000 square feet at Wigston.
